Double denim or Denim on Denim is one of my favorite combinations. It is a trend that has been around for decades and looks like it is one that wont be going anywhere anytime soon. So many people think that it is an absolute no no, however, when it’s done right, it can look amazing! Denim after all is the people’s fabric and is very popular. The beauty of it is that it can transcend all these different styles. And that ability to transcend is exactly what makes doubling up on it so appealing.
The trick for getting denim on denim right is all in the pieces you choose. So I have put this post together, outlining the basics and general rules of double denim and how to make it work. When it comes to double denim, less isn’t more in my opinion. If you are wanting to try out this trend and are unsure on how to style it, it’s actually really easy! From shirts to dresses to tops, here’s what you need to know entering the brave new world of denim on denim.
1.The Chambray/Denim Cami Tank Top:
For a casual day out I have paired my favorite pair of jeans and tank to pull off this cool-girl look. For the girl always on the go throw in your most comfy slip-on mules and an easy statement necklace for a day excursion around the city.

2.The Denim/Chambray Button Down Shirt:
According to me a Chambray Shirt is a closet staple. I would for sure list a chambray shirt as one of the top three pieces of clothing that every girl should have in her closet. It is a fabulous basic and unlike most items in our closet, it can work for all 4 seasons.
One of my favorite ways to wear chambray is with a light denim skinny jeans. I love the contrast of the denims and the different spin it takes on the denim on denim look. For denim on denim make sure that the washes and colors are completely different from each other. Keep the denim confined to your clothing and just say no to denim shoes, a denim hat, a denim, handbag, or any other accessory.
To cover another basic, you want to make sure that your pieces fit you perfectly. The key here is making sure your jeans are slim or skinny and your shirt, jacket or vest is fitted. You need to make sure the cuts are slim, especially on the legs. I don’t think double denim ever looks good with really loose jeans.

3.The Shirt-Dress:
Shirt dresses are casual and easy to wear, making them perfect for the warmer days of spring and summer. They’re versatile and can be easily dressed up or down and look very chic and cool. The best part of a shirt dress is that it looks just perfect on its own. A plaid knee-length dress is delightfully feminine, with a looser design cinched at the waist with a thin belt paired with fun sneakers looks lovely and is great for a Spring day out in the park
