Winter essentials :: Styling the cozy sweater dress

Here’s a fact, I’m not a winter person. The moment the temperatures start falling, I start sinking deeper and deeper under layers of blankets. Honestly, if it were upto me I’d hibernate through the winters, but hellooo it’s the holiday season and you gotta go out.I’ve struggled a lot to find options that can make me look stylish as well as keep me warm during winters, and I’ve found my peace in the sweater dress.

So if you’re like me and you hate the cold but love your glam, read on to know how I style my sweater dresses to keep me warm plus give me that little holiday bling !  🙂

With the sweater dress there are endless options to choose from. You can find them in multiple different textures, patterns, styles and colors.

What to look for when buying a sweater dress:
  • Length: I prefer dresses that don’t fall past my knees so it looks like a dress and also keeps my legs warm.
  • Fit: I am 5’3” and sometimes a sweater dress can seem bulky or shapeless. I prefer dresses that don’t make me feel baggy or too short. My preference is a fitted dress.
  • Sleeve Length: My preference is three-quarter or long sleeves so that I don’t have to worry about layering to keep my arms warm.
  • Neckline: There is so much to choose from here from turtlenecks to cowl necks I love them all.
How to wear it:

My favorite formula is Sweater Dress + Tights + Boots + Scarf.

Here are my top 3 favorite looks:
  1. The abstract print bodycon dress is one of my favorites and is the easiest to style! A white infinity scarf, black lace up peep toe booties and white clutch bag ,it’s that simple! The best thing about this outfit is that it is not only elegant and classy but looks great both during the day and night and even at work.

2. A short sweater dress is chic but essentially needs to be paired up with knit leggings or black tights to keep warm. I have paired this with black knee high boots,an elegant bucket bag and a black coated detail shiny snood give some extra sheen to the outfit.

3. I picked this dress up at Macy’s on sale (I totally recommend Macy’s for sweater dresses they have lots of options from 17$-117$) and it stayed in my closet for a very long time because I did not know what to do with a plain black dress. Until I found these lace up ankle boots and the moment I saw them I knew what I need to do with them.

This one gives you a relaxed and cozy look. Ankle boots make the outfit look more elegant. Add a pair of black tights which not only keep you warm but also make your outfit look more sharp. This dress like most sweater dresses is slightly chunky and hides your waist, so try to glam up your dress with a stone studded belt.Bring in a floral pashmina scarf to brighten up that black outfit and a fringe bag and you are all set!
